ZX Spectrum Games coded by pupils of Beasden Primary (aged 10-11)
A downloadable game
Bearsden Primary - ZX Spectrum Games - Coded by 10/11 year olds - 2024 Edition
Primary 6 pupils at Bearsden Primary school (Aged 10/11) have once again been working incredibly hard to code games for the ZX Spectrum using Jonathan Cauldwell's AGD (Arcade Game Designer 4.8)
They have learned so much about basic coding along with debugging, animation and level design. They have also created their own loading screens and learned how to attach these to their games.
It would be wonderful if some Spectrum enthusiasts could take the time to play some of the games and share their thoughts.
The games are in .tap format and can be played in the usual ways, on your favourite emulator or you can simply Google ‘Torinak’, open any game and drag and drop the downloaded file into the screen for instant online/in-browser play.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and please download the games if you get the chance.
The Games:
Dungeon Escape by Jai and Robbie
Timothy’s Late for Dinner by Jack, Spencer, Archie and Aaron.

Hi, I’m contacting you because I want to make a homebrew tribute USB. I’m collecting as many content creators as possible. I also want to include a profile for each one, with a few details, such as their logo, avatar, name, work completed, projects, etc., so you can see who’s behind their creations.
That profile, along with any material you allow me to upload, will be placed on a USB drive. This will act as a database of creators and their creations, and will be updated as I connect with new people.
The USB I’m thinking of creating will be one of those rubber-type USBs, shaped like a Spectrum computer, something that looks really nice. The idea is that those who contribute material, and if they want to buy one or more, will get it at cost price, and those who just want to buy one, it will cost a little more.
The idea is that if enough are sold, enough to recover the initial investment, the profits that the rest of the USBs could generate will be distributed among the people who have contributed material to the project, via transfer, PayPal, or however possible, even if possible, that the USB will be free. Obviously, you can buy more than one, but only one of them can be free.
It’s not necessary or mandatory to buy the USB, only if you like it or want it.
If you’re interested in this project, you can contact me at this email, flopping@gmail.com. If you have any questions or concerns, let me know and I’ll answer them. Do you think the idea is a good one? Would you like to participate in the project? Let me know. Best regards.
Juan.
Tommy's Crazy Adventure is great! Immensely playable and, as with all these games, the plot and design is inspiring.
Love this, I went to Bearsden Academy in the 80s and have been a speccy scener since the early 90s, so love seeing the kids making such cool stuff. Sent Dougie a message of support and wasn't expecting a reply, but if you ever have need of some speccy gfx stuff, give me a yell. also find me on discord in the ZX Spectrum server with a lot of other speccy types if you ever need anything.

It's fantastic to see the games you have created this year, well done everyone!
Being a coder is a little bit like being Harry Potter, only for real. Writing code is like writing a magic spell. We can write a few lines and suddenly we can make a kangaroo jump over barrels, a ball fly into the back of a net or a helicopter rescue people trapped near a volcano. We can create any world and make anything happen in code. We are all wizards, we all have magical powers when we can code and we can spread magic with our imagination. Thank you for using your imagination and creating your magical games. I hope that some of you will consider writing software as a career, it's absolutely one of the very best jobs; it's every bit as good as being a wizard.
Great work, very creative!
By the way I had a bit of difficulty loading these in Fuse. The solution was to make sure you are in 128K Spectrum mode and load them using the Tape Loader option from the start menu. If I might make a suggestion, it would be helpful to have a ZIP file containing all the games in one download.
Thanks!
Got a full playlist of the games here :)
Thanks to everyone who created them.
These were a lot of fun. Some great imagination went into them! If I had to pick, I'd have to award the following medals:
Bronze: Space Adventure
Silver: Top Hat Timmy
Gold: Barbra Run
Sadly there was no download for "Smiley Man"
These are great fun! I particularly liked Top Hat Timmy's animation, the graphics in Tommy's Crazy Adventure and Barbra Run, and the one I spent most time on was Space Adventure which is really tricky - still haven't completed it yet!
(Can't see a download link for Smiley Man though?)
Well done to all the kids and thanks for making these games! I played them all and they're all awesome! Which is my favourite? Ooh, that's tough. There's so many things I like about these games. It's close. I think Tommy's Crazy Adventure is my favourite overall. My favourite sprite is Top Hat Timmy! My favourite screen is the house in Barbra Run. But there's something I like about all these games!
Fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed last years games, so I’ll be downloading and playing through these this evening.
42 years, and the Spectrum is STILL getting new games! Well done to your students!
Like every year these are so cool!
It's great to hear of young kids being shown how you program and use "old' computers. Congrats to all those involved!
